Hanson – Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet & Trumpet Teacher

Hanson is a saxophonist and composer with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toronto. He teaches saxophone, flute, clarinet, and trumpet at Melody School, working with students of all ages and levels to help them build strong fundamentals, musical confidence, and a personal connection to their instrument.

Specializing in jazz, Hanson brings real-world performance experience into his teaching. He is an active presence on Toronto’s music scene, performing regularly as both a bandleader and sideman at venues, festivals, and events across the city. He is a member of the Joseph Funk 10tet, winners of the 2025 Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival Artist of the Year Award, and also performs with the HMCS York Naval Reserve Band.

Hanson’s teaching philosophy emphasizes creativity, versatility, and a genuine enjoyment of music. Whether guiding students through jazz improvisation, classical repertoire, or beginner fundamentals, he tailors each lesson to the individual’s goals, helping them grow as both musicians and listeners.
